If you must control where Word saves your custom template files, change Word's default template folder setting as follows: Click the File tab and choose Options. In the left pane, choose Save. In the Save documents section, change the Default personal templates location folder (Figure B). Click OK when you're done.
A user's document templates are usually stored in a folder (usually on the user's computer) and normally called Templates.. The normal.dotm (or normal.dot) file will always be located in this folder. The default location of this folder differs among the various versions of Word.
Open a document that will function as the base for your template. Click on the Office button and select Open from the menu. Double-click on the name of the file you need. If you want to create a template from a blank document, click the Office button, choose "New" and double-click the blank document icon.
